TPF Engineering collaborated with the Paris-based architecture firm CHAIX & MOREL and the German firm JSWD Architekten in the renovation and extension of the Eastman building, situated near the European institutions, with the aim of establishing the House of European History. This new documentation and exhibition center, open to the public, aims to showcase a strong image of Europe and European integration within the cultural and urban landscape of Brussels.

Apart from the refurbishment of the existing U-shaped building, which involved structural modifications, finishes, and technical building services, the project also involved the construction of a new volume within the U and the addition of three floors to the existing building with a glass facade.

As a result of these works, the House of European History now boasts a permanent exhibition space, a temporary exhibition space, and an event space.

The client was committed to incorporating sustainable development principles into the project, including accessibility, flexibility, integration into the surrounding urban and neighborhood environment, and adopting an HQE (High Environmental Quality) approach.

Our mission(s)

As a team, we were responsible for the entire project as the author of the structural and technical design. We collaborated with the CHAIX & MOREL architecture firm and their associates to ensure the success of the project.

Our services included the design and implementation of various systems such as heating, ventilation, and cooling, plumbing and sanitary facilities, electrical systems (both strong and weak current), elevators, security and access control, fire detection, audience equipment (video-conferencing and simultaneous translation), and planning and coordination of safety measures.
